Create a Reinspection

Prev Next

The Community Development system links multiple inspections. This allows tracking the status of a "failed" inspection. It tracks the failure through as many authorized inspections as needed. This continues until the problem is fixed. This process is used in the permitting, violation, complaint, and fire and safety modules.

By default, the system only shows the re-inspect link for inspections that have a "failed" status. However, a setting can be turned on. This allows the "re-inspect" option for inspections that have a "pass" status. This is mostly used for large commercial project inspections. For example, you might need to inspect only parts of an inspection type, like framing. If local rules allow, the contractor can request inspections on parts of the work, such as the first 100 feet of framing. This lets them continue other building steps, even while framing work is still going on in other parts of the building.

When a staff member clicks the "re-inspect" link, the system creates a new inspection record. This new record is directly linked to the failed inspection. The system also brings over comments, checklist items, and notes from the first inspection. The re-inspection becomes the main record. The main record cannot be changed until the re-inspection is completed. It is also not possible to delete the original inspection record. This applies if it is attached to a re-inspection.
