Schedule and manage inspections related to the permit. Record results and track inspection status.

Important Note:

This article applies to Elevate V5 permit applications. If your system matches the V4 image below, you may be using a different version. Please visit the V4 permit application guide instead.

Add a New Inspection

  1. Sign in to your site

  2. Navigate to the Permitting System:

  3. Use the Search field to find the record:

    • Search: Enter a permit number or keyword to search

    • Filter by Status: Filter permits by status. Examples include application in review, pending, building plans in review, closed, or expired

    • Filter by Type: Filter permits by type. Examples include commercial, electrical, plumbing, or residential

    • Filter by Use: Filter permits by use. Examples include roofing, zoning, fire inspection, or construction

  4. Select the Permit record:

  5. Navigate to the Inspections tab:

  6. Click the New Inspection link:

  7. Complete the form:

    A form for adding a new inspection with fields for type, step, and comments.

    • Inspection Type: Select the type of inspection to be added

    • Select Inspection Step: Select the specific inspection step associated with the inspection type

    • Comment or Notes: Enter any comments or notes related to the inspection

  8. Click the Add Inspection button:

  9. The inspection has been added to the permit record:

Request an Inspection

  1. Sign in to your site

  2. Navigate to the Permitting System:

  3. Use the Search field to find the record:

    • Search: Enter a permit number or keyword to search

    • Filter by Type: Filter permits by type. Examples include commercial, electrical, plumbing, or residential

    • Filter by Use: Filter permits by use. Examples include roofing, zoning, fire inspection, or construction

  4. Select the Permit record:

  5. Navigate to the Inspections tab:

  6. Click the three dots next to the unscheduled inspection:

  7. Click Request Inspection:

    A list of rough inspections with a highlighted option to request an inspection.

  8. Fill out the form:

    A form for requesting an inspection with fields for date, contact, and notes.

    • Requested Date: Select the date the inspection is requested

    • Inspection: Select the inspection to be scheduled

    • Select Contact: Select or enter the contact person for the inspection

    • Contact Phone Number: Enter or confirm the contact’s phone number

    • Contact Email: Enter or confirm the contact’s email address

    • Schedule Notes: Enter any additional notes related to scheduling the inspection

  9. Click Request Inspection:

  10. If the request is successful, you will see Requested next to the inspection:

Managing an Inspection

  1. Sign in to your site

  2. Navigate to the Permitting System:

    • Search: Enter a permit number or keyword to search

    • Filter by Type: Filter permits by type. Examples include commercial, electrical, plumbing, or residential

    • Filter by Use: Filter permits by use. Examples include roofing, zoning, fire inspection, or construction

  4. Select the Permit record:

  5. Navigate to the Inspections tab:

  6. Click the caret to expand the inspection:

  7. Enter the required information in the details, checklist, documents, and code sections:

Details

  1. Click the caret to expand the inspection:

  2. Click on the Details tab:

    The inspection details section shows status, comments, and history for inspections. The details tab is highlighted.

  3. Fill out the Inspection Details:

    The inspection details section shows status selection and the comments input area.

    • Select Status: Select or update the current status of the inspection

    • Comments or Notes: Enter any comments or notes related to the inspection

    • History: Displays a record of inspection activity and status changes

  4. Click the Save button:

  5. Once completed, the inspection will show the status you selected in the details section:

Checklist

  1. Navigate to the Checklist tab. Click the caret to expand all applicable checklists:

  2. Fill out all applicable forms:

    • Status: Select the status for the checklist item

    • Comments or Notes: Enter notes or comments related to the checklist item

      Note:

      The checklist may change based on the type of inspection selected. Some inspections require additional steps or documentation.

  3. Click the Save button:

Documents

  1. Navigate to the Documents tab:

  2. Click Select File to upload a file, or click the Camera button to take a photo with your device:

  3. To add a description, click the caret:

  4. Enter the file’s description:

  5. To view the document before uploading, click on the arrow:

    Note:

    When you click the arrow to view the file, a new window will appear with a file preview.

  6. Click the X to remove a file, if needed:

  7. Click the Upload button:

  8. To download a file from the record, click the file name and follow your device’s download prompts:

  9. To print a file, click the printer icon and follow your device’s print steps:

  10. To email a file, select the envelope icon:

  11. Complete the Send Document form, then click the Send button:

    • To: Displays the recipient’s email address

    • Attachment: Displays the file selected to send

    • Remove: Remove the attached file before sending

    • Subject: Enter the subject of the email

    • Message: Enter the message to include with the document

  12. To delete a file from the record, click the trashcan icon:

  13. Click the Delete Document button:

Codes

  1. Navigate to the Code tab, then click on Cite Code:

  2. Select all applicable codes by clicking the checkboxes. You can select multiple cites:

    • Search Code: Enter a code title, keyword, or section number to search for results

    • Filter by Code Book: Select a code book to narrow the search results

    • Source: Displays the code source

    • Name or Title: Displays the name or title of the code section

    • Outside Location: Displays the external link to view the full code section

    • Cite: Select the checkbox to add the code section as a citation

  3. Click on the Add Citations button:

  4. The codes will appear on the record:

  5. To view the code, click the Open in New Window icon:

  6. A pop-up will open showing the code details:

  7. To delete a code, click the trashcan icon:

  8. Click on the Delete Code button:

Final Inspection

  1. Once inspections are finished, select the Final Inspection Complete checkbox to mark them complete:
