CivicPlus Accessibility Overview

CivicPlus best practices include code-base updates and content standards that reference WCAG 2.0 A and AA, which encompasses and surpasses Section 508 standards.

WCAG 2.0 A & AA

Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) is backed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), the primary international web standards organization, and represents the future direction for web accessibility standards in the U.S.

WCAG 2.0 AAA

After evaluating the criteria for WCAG 2.0 AAA compliance, and considering universally accepted best practices in the web community, CivicPlus has chosen not to reference WCAG 2.0 AAA criteria. The AAA level of conformance severely limits the aesthetic appeal of a site, while not providing a meaningful, positive impact on accessibility. Our focus is to provide a high degree of compliance with WCAG 2.0 A and AA, which maximizes accessibility for all users, while providing freedom to create a visually rich and appealing site.

Zero Errors

There are no-error free sites. It’s a fluid measurement and different scan tools produce different results—there’s a lot that’s open to interpretation. The most important thing you can do is to show an ongoing good-faith effort to keep your content compliant. To learn more about what you can do, please view our tools and resources.
