A Reminder to Protect Your Administration from Fraud Attempts
CivicPlus® has been made aware of at least one attempt by a bad actor to impersonate a CivicPlus representative by phone (“vishing”) in an attempt to gain access to a customer’s administrative bank account. Fortunately, this vishing attempt was unsuccessful, thanks to our customer’s hyperawareness and due diligence. We’d therefore like to take the opportunity to remind all our customers of some fraud protection best practices to keep you and your data safe from such digital communications-based attacks and scams.
While CivicPlus team members may contact you about the status of your contract or invoices, if you are contacted by an unfamiliar party claiming to be a CivicPlus representative and you have any doubts that the communication is legitimate, follow these steps:
- Review the sender’s URL in any email communication. Representatives of CivicPlus will have the “civicplus.com” URL in the email address only and no other variation, as CivicPlus does not use any other top-level domain.
- Be cautious about unsolicited communications, especially those requesting money or claiming changes in account management.
- Do not provide bank account details or payment information over the phone to anyone claiming to be a CivicPlus staff member with whom you are unfamiliar or without validating their role in our company with your customer success manager, sales representative, or implementation manager.
- Document all suspicious interactions, including names, contact details, and the nature of the request, and send them to your CivicPlus customer success manager for investigation.
If you have any other questions, please contact your Customer Success Manager.
