Create a COG to COG message

This article will show how to create a COG to COG message in IPAWS.

Instructions

  1. Access or Login to IPAWS

  2. Select Messages menu:The IPAWS Dashboard screen with the Messages menu highlighted.

  4. Select Templates from the dropdown menu (optional):The Create Cog to Cog Message screen with the Selected Template drop-down menu highlighted.

    Note:

    Optional Templates are pre-defined scenarios. To create a new template, fill out the form and click Save New Template.

  5. Select Message Type LIVE or DEMO:The Create Cog to Cog screen with the Message Type drop-down menu highlighted using the colors are for a LIVE message type.

    Note:

  6. Set the Destination COGS:The Message Type section with the Destination COGS drop-down menu highlighted.

    Note:

    You can add as many COGS as needed.

  7. Adjust Message SettingsThe Create Cog to Cog screen for a LIVE message with the Message Settings section highlighted.

    • Event Type: Identifies the subject of the message by the same event code representation. This is a classifier for your message.

    • Response Type: This value denotes the type of action recommended for the target audience. This is not sent to the public.

    • Duration: Identifies how long you expect this message to be effective. You can always update or cancel as needed.

    • Change Advanced CAP fields: (optional) Check if you want to adjust category, urgency, severity, or certainty values:The Message Settings section with the Change Advanced CAP Fields checkbox highlighted and drop-down menus revealed.

  8. Add Message Content:A LIVE Cog to Cog screen with the Message Content section highlighted.

    • Event Headline: Summary of the Event or the name of your message. Required for NWEM, optional for EAS

    • Event Description: Specify the event or the situation. Text is included in the EAS screen crawl

    • Recommended Instructions: Instructions the message recipients should follow. Text is included in the EAS screen crawl

    • Audio message: Attach a recorded audio file as your message or listen to the text-to-speech of your current message

  9. Set a Target Area:The Create Cog to Cog screen for a LIVE message with the Target Area section highlighted.

    • Area Description: Required. Enter a specific area description of the geographic area being alerted

    • Geographic Area: WEA only. Targets cell sites in a specified area, when supported by the carrier

    • FIPS Codes: Required for all EAS and WEA messages. Choose the FIPS for the affected area or areas

  10. Click Send TEST/LIVE ALERT:The Create Cog to Cog screen with the SEND LIVE ALERT button highlighted.
