Public Sign-Up to Mass Notification Notifications

The CivicPlus Mass Notification solution has upgraded the public sign-up experience to utilize the Resident Portal, creating a unified experience across products. The CivicPlus team will work with organizations to update their sign-up flow to the new Resident Portal. If your organization has not yet updated, please contact Support to launch the new sign-in experience.

This article walks through how residents can sign up for alerts from their local government. They can also download the myAlerts Mobile App from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Residents can also Text-to-Join a Group.

Resident Portal Sign-Up Experience

Mass Notification now uses our Resident Portal for a more streamlined resident sign-up experience.

Resident Portal Important Notes

  • When subscribing to Weather voice alerts for your home or cell phone, you will only receive a call for the alert you have subscribed to if it is a "Warning" status or severe weather. All other Weather Alerts will be provided using text message or email.

Resident Portal Instructions

  1. Navigate to your organization's Resident Portal page

    Note: You will need to sign in to the Portal to manage your preferences.

  2. Select the Alerts & Notifications tab Alerts and Notifications tab.

  3. Select the Alerts or Weather Alerts tab Alerts or Weather Alerts tabs.

  4. If needed, use the Search bar to search for a subscription list Search box.

  5. Use the toggle next to a list to subscribe to alerts Toggle next to alert list.

    Note: You can also select the Subscribe to All button to receive notifications for all alerts.Subscribe to all button.

  6. The first time you subscribe to a list, you will be prompted to complete your Profile. Your Email will automatically populate. Click Continue with Email Only to just subscribe to email alerts, or choose to also Add Phone Alerts. Resident Portal - Alerts - Continue with email only or add phone alerts.png

  7. (Optional) If you chose to add phone alerts, fill out the Phone Number fields: Profile pop up.

    • Mobile and Voice Alerts: Select an existing number or add a new one. The first Cell Phone number field is required to receive weather alerts. This number must support text messages.

    • Voice Alerts: Select an existing number or add a new one. The Home Phone field is required to receive weather alert calls.

  8. Click NextNext button.

  9. Click Send Verification Code to verify the cell phone number you provided Send verification code.

  10. Enter the One Time Password that was sent to your phone and click Verify CodeVerify code.

  11. Click Next once the phone number is verified Next button on verification screen.

  12. Click Add New Address to enter a location Add new address.

  13. Fill out the address fields in the pop-up Address fields.

    Note: If you prefer not to provide your specific address, you can provide your general location. City, State, and Zip Code are required to receive Notifications.

    • Address Label: Edit the default label to describe the address, such as "Home Address"

    • Country: Type and select the applicable country

    • Search Google Maps: Type and select an address to search Google Maps and auto-populate the remaining fields

    • Address: Add the address for your location

    • City, State, Zip: You will need to enter your city, state, and zip code

    • Shipping Address is the same: Check the box if the address you entered is the same as your shipping address

  14. Click Save ChangesAddress save changes.

  15. Select the address and click NextNext button on Address screen.

  16. Select your preferred Language(s) and click NextLanguage fields.

  17. Review your information Review information.

  18. Click Save and CompleteSave and Complete.

    Note: The profile information will automatically be used when you subscribe to alerts in the future. You can click Manage Contact Information to update, as needed.Manage contact information button.

  19. A green confirmation bar will appear in the bottom right corner when you have successfully subscribed to a list Subscribed success.

  • The form depicted in this article is the most basic version; it is customizable for customers. What you see on your community public sign-up form may vary.

  • For the weather alerts selected, you will receive advanced notification of weather events with targeted alerts to your email and/or SMS-enabled phone if your location is included in the designated area.

  • To update the "text your zip code to X" language with a keyword, please contact Support.

Prior Experience Instructions

  1. Navigate to your community public sign-up form Example Mass Notification system sign up page for the public.

    Note: The URLs for community public sign-up forms are unique to each municipality. Follow the directions in the Find Your Public Sign-Up Form URL article to find your unique public sign-up URL.

  2. Click the green rectangular Sign Up button within the Sign up for Notifications section Green sign up button within the notifications section.

  3. Fill out the Sign-Up form Example sign up form.

    • First Name (required): Subscriber's first name

    • Last Name (required): Subscriber's last name

    • Email Address (required): Subscriber's email address

    • Cell Phone (required): Subscriber's main cell phone number

    • Cell Phone 2/Pager: Subscriber's secondary cell phone number or pager number if applicable

    • Home Phone: Subscriber's home phone number if applicable

    • Work Phone: Subscriber's work phone number if applicable

    • Current location (required): Subscriber's general location or chosen location

      Note: A location must be selected in order to continue.

  4. Select the preferred written and spoken languages Language preference fields.

    Note: See the Language Translations article for the full lists of available written and spoken languages.

  5. Select the desired alerts Alert options.

    Note: For those weather alerts selected, you will receive advanced notification of weather events with targeted alerts to your email and/or SMS-enabled phone if your location is included in the designated area.

  6. Read the Terms of Use Terms of use box.

  7. Click the I agree to the terms of use and I'm not a robot checkboxes Terms agreement and not a robot checkboxes.

  8. Click the green rectangular Sign Me Up button below the "I'm not a robot" box Green sign me up button below the not a robot box.

  9. You will see a "You have successfully signed up for notifications" message Sign up confirmation message.

  10. Respond to the text or email sent to you to confirm your subscription and activate your profile
