You can pause a live stream and show a custom message in the video player to let viewers know the meeting is temporarily paused. This feature is often used when a board or council leaves a public meeting for an executive or closed session and plans to return later.
Pausing the stream only stops the public live stream. The local recording and incoming video feed will continue.
Best Practice Recommendation: After unpausing the stream, wait a few seconds before starting the next part of the meeting to allow a short buffer of silence or non-essential content. This helps prevent viewers from seeing or hearing unintended content.
Important Notes
Pausing a live stream does not stop the incoming video feed from the encoder. The system will continue receiving the stream while viewers see the pause message.
Live streams also have a standard, short delay. When the stream is unpaused, playback may resume from slightly earlier buffered content. Because of this, viewers may briefly see or hear content from just before the stream was unpaused when the meeting resumes.
The pause feature and custom pause message only work in the Public Portal media player. They do not work for embedded live streams.
