Question Marks in Place of Apostrophes

Prev Next

Word and other document software may replace characters automatically due to grammar rules. These replacement characters may not display in Notify Me® or CivicSend messages properly and may instead display as a question mark (?).

  • Example: Word auto-replaces apostrophes with single-quote marks. Apostrophes display fine in most browsers, but single quotes may not.

Examples

Characters 34 and 39 will display properly in both ANSI and Unicode. All others will display as? depending on display settings.

Recommendations

At this time, our best recommendation is to disable auto-formatting in Word and other document software. Please note that this is not supported.
