Table of Contents, Export to PDF

Users of the Self-Publishing Software have access to additional tools not allowed by guests, including:

  1. Table of Content tools displayed within a dropdown menu which may be activated by "right-clicking" atop a table of content node's text. All new language added to a publication must be attached to a Table of Content "node" or "level".

    • To create a new table of content node, select the option "Add > Above, Below, or Into":

      • Selecting "Add Above" will create a new node with an empty field above the selected node;

      • Selecting "Add Below" will create a new node with an empty field below the selected node;

      • Selecting "Add Into" will create a new node within the selected node;

      • To give the new node a name, insert text within the field provided and select "Enter" or "Return".

      • A blue hyperlink will appear to the right of the Table of Contents in the content area. The hyperlink itself is uneditable. Select the "Edit" button beside the hyperlink to add language about the newly created node.

    • Select the "Edit Content" option to add, create or change the language about the node.

    • Select the "Rename" option to rename the node and its corresponding blue hyperlink in the content area.

    • Select "Unpublish" to conceal the node, its language, and any of its descendants from public view. This will turn the node's text Red. Other users of the software will continue to see the unpublished node and its language, but guests cannot. Practical uses for unpublishing a node may be:

      • When a node or its language is in the process of being added or altered, and the user doesn't want to confuse guests who might also be viewing the language;

      • When a node or its language has not yet been approved.

    • Right-clicking an unpublished Red node will provide the "Publish" option, which will no longer conceal the node and its language and again make it public.

    • Select "Delete" to delete the node, its language, and any of its descendants. A warning dialog will appear to ensure the deletion is intentional. Deleted nodes cannot be undone by users unless a Municode representative is contacted and the deletion time is provided.

    • Select "History > Documentation" to add Documentation to a node's language.

    • Select "History > Change Log" to review a table that displays:

      • "What" changes were made to a node or its language;

      • "Who" made those changes (a user name will be revealed);

      • "When" those changes were made (date and time will be revealed).

      • If there are several changes logged, toggle through the change log by selecting the numbers at the base of the dialog box.

      • Select "X" to close out the dialog.

    • Select "Generate PDF" to automatically create a downloadable/printable PDF of the selected node, its language, and any of its descendants. A "PDF Options" dialog will appear revealing:

      • a selectable "Font Size";

      • the option to "Exclude Page Numbers". By default, page numbers are included in PDF document generations. A practical reason to exclude page numbers would be to create an internal "looseleaf" code that is organized by dividers instead of page numbers and supplemented regularly in paper form.

      • Select "Generate PDF" to generate the PDF document according to the settings, or "Cancel" to close out the PDF Options dialog.

    • The creation of an automatic PDF may take a minute or more. The more language a node contains, the longer it will take to generate its PDF.

  2. To create a PDF of the entire Publication, select the PDF page icon in the black toolbar to the left of the gavel.
