Set Up Commerce Web Services

This article will walk through installing and configuring Converge Commerce Web Services (CWS) for use with CivicPlus Payments. Commerce Web Services is the listener application that sits between the EMV or pin-pad device and CivicPlus Payments.

Merchants should ensure their systems are updated to use the new version 6.5 of Commerce Web Services (CWS). Connected EMV devices will update automatically following the installation of CWS 6.5.

Pre-Requisites

  1. You must have downloaded version 6.5 of Commerce Web Services (ConvergeConnect).  

  2. Unplug your device if it is plugged in. It is recommended by Elavon to unplug the device when installing or updating Commerce Web Services so that the device does not pick up generic Windows Drivers. This could cause the device to not work like it is supposed to.

Installing or Updating Commerce Web Services

As of January 3, 2020, Commerce Web Services can only be installed on Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or 10.

  1. Click on the installer to launch it Open download.

  2. Click NextNext button.

  3. Click Install Install.

    • You may see a pop-up like this. This is normal. Converge connect popup.

  4. Click FinishFinish button.

  5. Once installed, you should see it running on your Windows tray Commerce web services in Windows Tray.

  6. Right-click on the item and select ShowSelect show.

  7. Click Start or RestartStart or Restart.

  8. Once the Service and CWS both say Running, plug in your device, be sure that it is configured for USB mode, and then click Refresh Devices refresh devices

    Note: If this is your first time using your device, it may run through updates. These updates can take 20 minutes or longer. Allow the device to fully update before using it.

  9. The device is ready to be used once the Card Reader populates Convergeconnect autopopulates.

Troubleshooting

If any issues arise during the installation or update, Elavon recommends the following steps:

  1. Verify the card reader is unplugged.

  2. Uninstall all programs that were installed by Commerce Web Services (CWS), including:

    • Commerce Web Services

    • Ingenico USB Driver

  3. Reboot the PC.

  4. Delete the Elavon Folder at C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Elavon\\CommerceWebServices.

  5. Disable the Antivirus program.

  6. Disable USB Selective Suspend.

  7. Install CommerceWebServicesSetup.exe as an administrator.

  8. Plug the card reader back in.

Note: Once the reader is connected, it may take 5 to 20 minutes for the reader to update and reboot. After the reader reboots, you should be able to refresh CWS and see the reader in the CWS Tray App. Note that the reader will not appear as detected in CWS until it updates.
