Create a Secure Chat in the CivicReady App

This article will explain how to create a secure chat using the CivicReady mobile app, which is part of CivicPlus’ Mass Notification system.

Important Notes

  • Chats can be started by administrators with the Super Admin, General Admin, or Send Only roles. The permission to allow a role to start a secure chat can be modified under Manage Roles.

  • Only internal contacts who have downloaded the mobile app and have an admin profile with the "Mobile User + Tasks Lists" role can participate in a secure chat.

Instructions

  1. Ensure you are logged into the CivicReady app

  2. Tap the drawer menuThe Alerts Received screen of the CivicReady Mobile app, with the Drawer Menu icon highlighted.

  3. Select Secure ChatDrawer menu, secure chat option.

  4. Tap the chat bubble icon in the top rightThe Secure Chat screen with the Chat Bubble icon highlighted.

  5. Select the desired number of participantsThe Secure Chat, New Chat screen with the Number of Participants pop-up message highlighted.

    • Up to 100: Select this option if the intended number of chat participants is 100 or less

    • Up to 300: Select this option if the intended number of chat participants is 300 or less

    Note:

    If you select the Up to 300 option, participants will not receive read receipts or notifications.

  6. Enter a name for the chat in the Chat Name fieldThe New Chat screen with the Chat Name field highlighted.

  7. Tap Select ParticipantsThe New Chat screen with the Select Participants option highlighted.

  8. Select a Chat Participant sourceThe New Chat screen with the Select Chat Participants From pop-up message including Groups View, Contacts List, and Cancel options.

    • Groups View: Tap this option to choose participants by group

    • Contacts List: Tap this option to choose individual participants

  9. Select the circle next to the group(s) or contact(s) that you would like to add to the alert The Add Recipients screen of the New Chat interface with clickable circle icons to select groups or users highlighted.

    Note:

    To see users within a group, navigate through the group structure to preview and select individuals within the list of members.The Internal Directory screen with the Expand/Arrow icon highlighted for the Fire Department group.

  10. Tap DoneThe Add Recipients screen with the Done button highlighted.

  11. Tap CreateThe New Chat screen with the Create button highlighted.

  12. Start messaging

    Note:

    Users can tap the plus (+) icon to share their location, images, and videos.
