Table Wizard Options

This article will demonstrate the Table Wizard tools, including Table Header, Table Footer, Cell, Row, Column, Table Properties, Cell Properties, Vertical Align, Horizontal Align, and Cell Style, which encompass all of the options that are available to you if you want to add or modify a table in a text field.

The Table Wizard also has options to remove the table and add breaks.

Table Wizard Tools

Remove Table

The 'remove table' option in the table wizard's formatting list.

Deletes the table from your text field.

Note:

If you accidentally delete a table, you can press CTRL + Z on your keyboard to undo your last action.

Row

The table wizard's row tool is highlighted, with options to delete or insert rows.

  • Insert Row Above: Inserts a new row above the selected row

    Note:

    You can also insert a row above by clicking outside of the table, hovering your mouse over the top-left corner of a first-column cell, and clicking the Insert button (plus icon) that appears:

  • Insert Row Below: Inserts a new row below the selected row

    Note:

    You can also insert a row below by clicking outside of the table, hovering your mouse over the bottom-left corner of a first-column cell, and clicking the Insert button (plus icon) that appears.

  • Delete Row: Deletes the selected row

Column

The table wizard's column tool is highlighted, with options to delete or insert columns.

  • Insert Column Before: Inserts a new column before (to the left of) the selected column

    Note:

    You can also insert a new column to the left by clicking outside of the table, hovering your mouse over the top-left corner of an existing column, and clicking the Insert button (plus icon) that appears:

  • Insert Column After: Inserts a new column after (to the right of) the selected column

    Note:

    You can also insert a new column to the right by clicking outside of the table, hovering your mouse over the top-right corner of an existing column, and clicking the Insert button (plus icon) that appears.

  • Delete Column: Deletes the selected column

Table Properties

  • Background:

    • Color: Sets the fill color inside the table (this can be entered as a HEX, short HEX, RGB, HSL or named color value)

    • Color Picker: Change the background color of the table by choosing a color from the color picker or typing a HEX color and clicking the OK button:

      Note:

      To reset the background to white, you will need to click the Clear Formatting button (trash can icon):

  • Border:

    • Style:

      • Solid: Adds a border with a single, continuous line with no breaks

      • Dashed: Adds a border with a series of short line segments with gaps between them

      • Dotted: Adds a border with a line made up of small, evenly spaced dots

      • Double: Adds a border with two parallel solid lines with a small gap between them

      • Groove: Adds a 3D border that looks carved into the page (sunken effect)

      • Ridge: Adds a 3D border that looks raised from the page (opposite of groove)

      • Inset: Adds a 3D border that makes the element appear pressed inward

      • Outset: Adds a 3D border that looks like it’s raised above the page

    • Color: Sets the color of the border (this can be entered as a HEX, short HEX, RGB, HSL, or named color value)

    • Color Picker: Change the color of the table border by choosing a color from the color picker or typing a HEX color and clicking the OK button:

      Note:

      To reset the border color, you will need to click the Clear Formatting button (trash can icon):

    • Width: Sets the thickness of the border line, in pixels

  • Dimensions:

    • Width: Sets the width of the table as a percentage or in pixels

    • Height: Sets the height of the table in pixels

  • Alignment: Controls where the table sits horizontally using Left Align, Center Align, or Right Align

  • Table Style:

    • Dashed Borders: Places dashed borders around all cells so that all of the table’s gridlines are visible as dashed lines

    • Alternate Rows: Changes the background color of alternating rows to gray

      Note:

      To undo the selected style, you will need to click the Table Style button and click the selected style again.

    • Border all Cells: Places a border around every cell so that all of the table’s gridlines are visible as solid lines

    • Border Table: Adds a border around the table so there are solid lines visible around the table’s perimeter

  • Accessibility:

    • Caption Text: Enter or edit a caption for the table

    • Summary Text: Enter or edit a text description of the table’s purpose or structure

  • Cancel: Cancel your changes to the table properties

  • Save: Save your changes to the table properties

Cell

A table cell formatting tool is highlighted, with options to merge and split cells.

  • Merge Cells: Merges all selected cells into a single cell

  • Vertical Split: Splits cells vertically into two columns

  • Horizontal Split: Splits cells horizontally into two rows

Cell Properties

  • Background:

  • Dimensions:

    • Width: Sets how wide a table cell is in pixels

    • Height: Sets how tall a table cell is in pixels

    • Padding: Sets the amount of space inside a table cell, between the cell’s content and its border, in pixels

  • Cancel: Cancel your changes to the cell properties

  • Save: Save your changes to the cell properties

Vertical Align

The vertical alignment options for a table cell's content.

  • Top: Aligns the text with the top of selected cells

  • Middle: Aligns the text in the middle of selected cells

  • Bottom: Aligns the text at the bottom of selected cells

Horizontal Align

  • Align Left: Aligns the text on the left of selected cells

  • Align Center: Aligns the text in the middle of selected cells

  • Align Right: Aligns the text on the right of selected cells

  • Align Justify: Justifies the text as flush with margins

Cell Style

  • Highlighted: Places a red highlight around selected cells

  • Thick: Increases border thickness around selected cells

Note:

To undo the selected style, you will need to click the Cell Style button and click the selected style again.

Breaks

Creates a paragraph break before or after your table.

Note:

The Break button (return arrow icon) appears after clicking in front of or behind the table, and hovering the mouse over the top or bottom table border.
