Linking Documents in an Editor Widget

This article will show you how to post a link to a document on a page with the Editor Widget.

Who can use this feature?

System Administrators | Owners | Publishers | Authors*

*Authors can only edit unpublished pages.

Instructions

  1. Log in to your website solution

  2. Navigate to your desired page

  3. Ensure that the Live Edit state is toggled to ON: Municipal Websites Central interface with live edit feature activated in the mega menu navigation bar area.

  4. Add an Editor widget to your page (if necessary): Editor widget being dragged from the widgets menu into the edit content field.

  5. Click inside the Editor widget you wish to create your link in: Editor Widget Click to Edit.

  6. Enter and select the text you wish to link, including the appropriate document extension, or select existing text that you wish to make into your document link: Selected for Creating a Document Link.

    Note: You may, alternatively, place your cursor where you would like the link to appear and enter the text to be linked after you click the Insert Document Link button, using the Text field that appears.

  7. Click the Insert Document Link button on the Editor widget toolbar: Toolbar displaying various formatting options with a highlighted insert document folder icon.

  8. Locate the desired folder/document and click the Insert button related to the document you wish to link: Related document management interface showing folders and highlighted 'INSERT' options for adding content.

  9. Review the link text (if you already selected it) or enter your desired link text, including the appropriate document extension, in the Text field: Dialog box displaying the document URL, highlighted display text, and options for insertion.

    • Open in new tab: Click this checkbox to open your document in a new tab (recommended)

  10. Click the Insert button of the Insert Document Link dialog box: Insert link highlighted for inserting a linked document into the editor widget.

  11. Click the Done Editing button to exit the Editor widget and view your link: Done Editing Button.

  12. Choose a Save option: Save Button.

    • Save: Saves all page changes

    • Save As Copy: Saves page changes as a copy of the current page

To set a link to open to a specific page of a PDF file, add #page=[pagenumber] to the end of the link's URL.
