The News Flash module displays items in alphabetical order by category name. Within each category, items display in the order they are listed. This means related pages and widgets show all published items from the first category, then all items in the next category, and so on until all items are visible.
You can adjust this display order. Reorder items within categories, or rename categories so more important ones appear earlier in the alphabetical order. You can also adjust the number of categories shown to display more or fewer items depending on the space on the page.
