Add a News Flash Item

Who can use this feature?
System Administrator | Owner | Publisher | Author

Sign in to your site
Navigate to Modules and on the Content tab, select News Flash
Select which category you would like to add an item to
Click Add Item
Fill in the information fields
- Display: Choose the date and time to display the item and when it should expire
  Note: If you set a start date/time for an item, then it will not be sent out or published until that time.
- Show Last Modified Date?: Display when the item was last updated
- Title: This is the headline of the news item
- Link: Choose link options for the item
  - Web Address: Add the {{glossary.URL}}
  - Display Text: Modify the display text if desired, the default text is Additional Info...
  - Open in a new window: Select to open the link in a new window
  - Link item, image, read on, {{glossary.RSS}}, and notifications to this Web Address: Links the item to the link in Web Address
- Lead In: Brief synopsis describing the item that will show in the notification email
- Full Text: A full description of the item; will not show in the notification email but will be accessible via a link
  Notes:
  - The Full Text area uses the same Editor as the Editor Widget used on the Front End pages of the site. Our Editor Widget Overview article provides more details about the available tools on the editor.
  - You cannot currently add a Slideshow to a News Flash item, so it will appear missing in comparison to the regular Editor toolbar.
- Image: Click Choose Image to attach an image to the item
  - Alignment: Choose to align the image to the right or left of the item
- Featured?: Check to feature this item at the top of the News Flash page
- “Read On…” Text: Allows you to change what the full-text link says
- Show Archives: Choose Yes/No to display previous items
- Related Categories: If needed, select any News Flash categories that you would like to duplicate the message in
- Show in Widget: Uncheck if you do not want to allow the item to be displayed in News Flash widgets
Click Save and Publish
Fill in the Notification options
- Subject: Auto-fill with the subject information; will show in the notification email
  - Include New or Modified status in email subject: Choose to attach a tag that indicates the item as being New or Modified
- Comments: Attach a brief description of the alert; will show in the notification email
- Mobile Text/Push Message: Attach a message to the {{glossary.SMS}} notification
- Include link to item: Provides a link to the item within the {{glossary.SMS}} message for a user to select via their mobile device.
- Send:
  - On Start Date: Sends the notification on the start date previously set
  - Immediately: Sends the notification immediately
- Send, Don’t Send, or Cancel: Notification will be sent accordingly to those who have signed up in Notify Me for the selected News Flash category

Modify a News Flash Item

Navigate to Modules and on the Content tab, select News Flash
Select the category that contains the News Flash you want to modify
Select the item you want to modify
Modify the information fields
- Display: Configure Starting On (publishing) and Stopping On (expiration) date and times
- Show Last Modified Date?: Display when the item was last updated
- Title: Modify the title of the item
- Link: Enter Web Address and Display Text to link the item to a Web Address
  - Open in new window: Select to open the link in a new window
  - Link item, image, read on, and notifications to this Web Address: Link the news flash item, image, read-on text, and any related notifications to the Web Address
- Lead In: Brief synopsis describing the item; will show in the notification email (255 character limit)
- Full Text: Full description of the item; will not show in the Notification email but will be accessible using a link
- Image: Add or change the image
  - - Align: Choose how to align the image (left or right)
    - Modify: Click to choose a different image
    - Remove: Click to remove the image
- Featured?: Check to feature this item at the top of the News Flash page
- "Read on..." Text: Enter "read on" text that will appear under the news flash item
- Show Archives: Choose to show Archives (Yes/No)
- Related Categories: If needed, select any News Flash categories that you would like to duplicate the message in
- Show in Widget: Uncheck if you do not want to allow the item to be displayed in News Flash widgets
Select a saving option at the top of the page
- Save and Preview: Save and view a preview of the item
- Save: Save as a draft
- Save & Submit (Authors only): Save and send for approval
- Save and Publish (Drafts only): Publish the News Flash item
  Note: If you Save and Publish a News Flash with a Starting On date in the future, it will appear as Pending until it reaches the Starting On date. It will then publish on the specified Starting On date.
- Save and Send (Published only): Send the News Flash with your modifications
If you chose Save and Publish or Save and Send, then configure notification options

- Subject: Auto-fill with the subject information; will show in the notification email
- Comments: Attach a brief description of the alert; will show in the notification email (1,000 character limit)
- Mobile Text/Push Message: Edit the auto-filled {{glossary.SMS}} message (160-character limit)
- Include link to item: Check to include a link straight to the News Flash
- Send:
  - On Start Date: Send on the desired Start Date
  - Immediately: Override the Start Date and send at the current time
- Send / Don't Send / Cancel: Choose to send, do not send, or cancel the notification

Delete a News Flash Item

Important Note:
A News Flash item must be unpublished before it can be deleted.

Sign in to your site
Navigate to Modules and on the Content tab, select News Flash
Select the category the News Flash item to be deleted is in
Select Choose an Action then Unpublish next to the item you want to delete
Select Choose an Action then Delete for that same item
Select OK from the Are you sure you want to delete this News Flash item? popup
