This article will show you how to unpublish a Group. This will remove the group's permissions to any assigned pages or modules.

Instructions
Navigate to Modules and on the Site Tools tab, select Group Administration:

Locate your desired group (front-end or back-end), select Choose an Action and then Unpublish:
Your category will now display underneath Unpublished Categories:
