Use a Performance Test File to Gather Information (Windows)

If you are experiencing a network-related issue, you may be able to use a Performance Test File to gather more information. This article will show you how to use a Performance Test File on a computer with a Windows operating system.

Important Note:

This process will only work on Windows operating systems.

Instructions

  1. Save the PerformanceTest.txt file to your computer's desktop

  2. Before you run the program, change the .txt extension to .bat

    1. Open Notepad on your computer

    2. Navigate to the File menu and select Open... The expanded Notepad program File menu with the Open... option highlighted.

    3. Locate and select the PerformanceTest.txt file in File Explorer A PerformanceTest.txt file icon within File Explorer.

    4. Click the Open button A gray Open button in the bottom-right corner of the File Explorer window.

    5. Navigate to File and select Save As... The expanded Notepad program File menu with the Save As... option highlighted.

    6. Select Desktop as the file destination A highlighted Desktop option within the File Explorer navigation pane.

    7. Click the Save as type: field and select All Files from the drop-down list Save as type drop-down list with the All Files option highlighted.

    8. Click the File name field and change the file name to PerformanceTest.bat File name field with PerformanceTest.bat in the text box.

    9. Click the Save button A gray save button at the bottom-right corner of the File Explorer window.

  3. Navigate to your computer's desktop

  4. Double-click the PerformanceTest.bat shortcut to execute the program A PerformanceTest.bat shortcut on the desktop.

    Notes:

    • This process may take a few minutes to complete.

    • Once completed, it will produce a results.txt file on your desktop. A results.txt shortcut on the desktop.

  5. Attach the results.txt file to your response email
