Introduction to URL Aliases

URL Aliases in Web Evolve allow your organization to create clean, human-readable URLs for pages and Headless CMS (HCMS) content.

Instead of long or difficult-to-read links, URL Aliases help create clear, structured URLs that are easier for visitors to understand, share, and find through search engines.

Examples:

  • /about-us

  • /fire -department

  • /content/news/community-cleanup-day

  • /content/events/fall-festival-2026

URL Aliases help improve usability, site organization, and search engine optimization (SEO) across your website.

What Are URL Aliases?

A URL Alias is the public-facing URL used to access a page or content item on your site.

Web Evolve uses URL Aliases to create:

  • Cleaner URLs

  • More consistent site navigation

  • Structured content paths

  • SEO-friendly web addresses

When a visitor navigates to a URL Alias, Web Evolve automatically routes them to the correct page or content behind the scenes.

Types of URL Aliases

Web Evolve supports URL Aliases for both pages and HCMS content.

Page URL Aliases

Page aliases are generated automatically based on the page title.

Examples:

Page Title

URL Alias

About Us

/about-us

Fire Department

/fire-department

Authorized users can customize page aliases to better match their preferred site structure or naming conventions.

HCMS URL Patterns

HCMS content uses configurable URL patterns that define how content URLs are structured.

Examples:

Content Type

Example URL

/content/jobs/public-works-director

URL patterns are configured by a site administrator at the content type level.'

Managing URL Aliases

Page URL Aliases are automatically generated for all pages in Web Evolve and can be customized by authorized users.

HCMS content aliases are automatically generated when a URL pattern is configured for a content type. Unlike page aliases, individual HCMS content URLs cannot be manually customized and instead follow the configured content type pattern.

Web Evolve helps maintain consistency by preventing duplicate aliases and validating URL formatting requirements.
