How to Create an Asset

  1. Log in to your system

  2. Click the Asset tab:The Asset tab, highlighted in the interface's secondary navigation.

  3. On the Asset tab, click the Create button:The Asset tab with its 'Create' button highlighted.

  4. Select an asset class from the list for the asset you want to create:A list of asset classes, with the 'Water Hydrant' option highlighted.

  5. After selecting the class, add or select the location in the pop-up window by adding the coordinates, using the “Use My Location” button, or adding the location point to the map:
An example map showing various locations.

    Note:

Each asset class may need a different type of geometry; such as lines, ploygons, or points.

  6. To navigate the map, you can use:

    • Longitude and Latitude: Moves the map to the location entered:A map interface showing manual coordinate entry for latitude and longitude with a submit button.

    • Use My Location: Moves the map to where you’re located:A button labeled 'Use My Location'.

    • Drag the map using the hand tool

  7. To draw the asset on the map, you have 3 options: point, line, and polygon.

    Notes:

    • To complete a drawing, double-click your mouse. On a touchscreen device, you will need to do a long tap to complete the drawing. The color will change to yellow when completed.

    • You can clear out a drawing by clicking “Clear All”:A button labeled 'Clear All'.

    • For Point geometry, right-click the map at the desired point.

    • For Line geometry:

      1. Set Geometry Type to Line. Check the Snap feature to align with nearby features:
Map interface showing the Line geometry type for asset creation.

      2. Draw the initial line by clicking on the map at your starting point

      3. Move your cursor to the next point and click again to create a segment

      4. Repeat as needed to draw additional connected segments

      5. To add new vertices, click on the line itself (not the endpoints)

      6. A new draggable point will appear, allowing you to adjust the line’s shape

      7. You can continue clicking on the line to add more vertices as needed

      8. Drag each vertex to fine-tune the path of the asset to better align with aerial imagery or parcel lines:

        Note About Water Flow Direction:

For pipe assets, the direction in which you draw the line will determine the flow direction, depending on your user permissions.

    • For Polygon geometry:

      1. Ensure Snap is checked to align with nearby features

      2. Set Geometry Type to Polygon from the dropdown menu

      3. Draw the polygon:
A map interface showing the Polygon geometry type for asset creation.

        1. Click on the map to place the first corner of the polygon.

        2. Continue clicking to define additional corners.

        3. Each click places a new vertex.

      4. To complete the polygon, click back on the starting point (or double-click the final vertex).

      5. Modify the polygon as needed

        • Click on any vertex (corner point) to drag and reposition it.

        • Click on a polygon edge (line between corners) to add a new vertex for more detailed shapes, as shown below:
A map interface with two vertices added to a Polygon geometry type asset.

        • Vertices can be adjusted to match aerial imagery or parcel lines precisely.

  8. After completing your drawing, close the map by clicking the Close (X) icon:

  9. Fill out the relevant properties:Fill in the required properties for your new asset

    Note:

The available fields will vary based on the customer’s needs.

  10. Click the Save button:The asset's Properties tab, with its 'Save' button highlighted.
