General FAQs

What is AI Content Advisor?

AI Content Advisor is a tool that helps local government teams improve website content by offering SEO and AEO recommendations and identifying outdated content. It integrates directly into CivicPlus products to support ongoing content quality and discoverability.

Where is AI Content Advisor available?

You can access AI Content Advisor features in Municipal Websites Evolve, Municipal Websites Central, and in the AI Content Advisor application.

SEO and AEO FAQs

What do SEO and AEO mean?

  • SEO (Search Engine Optimization): Improves your content’s visibility in traditional search engines like Google or Bing.

  • AEO (Answer Engine Optimization): Helps your content appear in direct answers provided by AI tools like Google’s featured snippets, voice assistants, or platforms like ChatGPT and Google Bard.

Where do the recommendations appear?

You’ll see SEO and AEO recommendations in a panel when editing a page in Municipal Websites Evolve or Municipal Websites Central.

Do I need to be an SEO expert to use this?

No! The recommendations are simple, clear, and designed for non-technical users to act on easily.

How soon after making updates can I see the new recommendations?

  • In Municipal Websites Evolve, updated content is typically re-analyzed within 15 minutes after changes are saved and published.

  • In Municipal Websites Central, content is re-analyzed overnight, so updates will be reflected the following day.

What if I don’t like the suggestions?

The recommendations are generated by AI and may not always fit your specific content or context. You’re the subject matter expert. Feel free to use your judgment on how (or whether) to apply a suggestion. The goal is to support your work, not override it.

Stale Content Report FAQs

How is content categorized?

When AI Content Advisor is first set up, your entire site is scanned, and each page is automatically categorized using AI. New pages are also categorized automatically when published. These categories determine how often each page should be reviewed.

Can I change a page’s category?

Not at this time. Content categories are assigned automatically by AI and cannot be manually adjusted. If you believe a page doesn’t need immediate attention, you can use the ignore feature to temporarily remove it from the report.

What are the content states?

Each page is labeled with a state to help prioritize reviews:

  • Fresh: Up to date

  • Aging: Nearing the end of its review cycle

  • Stale: Past its review window

  • Outdated: Significantly overdue (more than two review cycles)

How does the ignore feature work?

You can temporarily hide a piece of content from the report by ignoring it for one, three, or 12 months. After that time, it will reappear if it’s still overdue for review.
