View a Website's SSL Certificate

This article will show you how to view a website's SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate. This allows you to view information such as who issued the website's SSL, when the certificate was issued, and when it expires.

Important Note:

The instructions in this article apply to the Google Chrome browser. If you use a different browser, your experience may vary.

Instructions

  1. In the Google Chrome browser, navigate to the desired website

    • Example: https://www.google.com/

  2. Click the View site information button (padlock icon) to the left of the website URL:The View Site Information icon in the Google Chrome browser.

  3. Click the Connection is secure option to open the Security menu:The Chrome Browser's site information, with the Connection is secure option highlighted.

  4. Click the Certificate is valid option to view the SSL Certificate in a pop-up window:The Chrome Browser Security menu with the Certificate is Valid option highlighted.

  5. View the SSL Certificate information:An example of a Chrome Browser SSL Certificate information such as issuance, validity period, and more.

    • Issued To: The website the SSL Certificate was issued

    • Issued By: Who issued the SSL Certificate

    • Validity Period: When the Certificate was issued and when it expires
