View a Website's SSL Certificate

This article will show you how to view a website's SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate. This allows you to view information such as who issued the website's SSL, when the certificate was issued, and when it expires.

Important Note:

The instructions in this article apply to the Google Chrome browser. If you use a different browser, your experience may vary.

Instructions

  1. In the Google Chrome browser, navigate to the desired website

    • Example: https://www.google.com/

  2. Click the View site information button (padlock icon) to the left of the website URL The Google Chrome View site information padlock icon to the left of the address bar.

  3. Click the Connection is secure option to open the Security menu The Connection is Secure expandable menu option.

  4. Click the Certificate is valid option to view the SSL Certificate in a pop-up window The Certificate is valid button.

  5. View the SSL Certificate informationThe Google Chrome Certificate Viewer with SSL certificate details for Google.com.

    • Issued To: The website the SSL Certificate was issued

    • Issued By: Who issued the SSL Certificate

    • Validity Period: When the Certificate was issued and when it expires
