Add and Manage FAQ Categories

This article will show you how to create and manage a category in the FAQs module.

Who can use this feature?

System Administrator | Owner

Create an FAQ Category

  1. Sign in to your site.

  2. Navigate to Modules and, on the Content tab, select FAQs:

  3. Click the Add Category button:

    The FAQ section shows categories and a highlighted Add Category button.

  4. Fill in the information fields:

    • Category Name: Create a category name

    • Start Display: Enter a display date to auto-publish the category. A blank date will immediately publish the category.

    • End Display: Enter an end display date to auto-unpublish. A blank date will leave the category published indefinitely.

    • Number to Display: The maximum number of FAQs that display on a related page

    • Show Archives: Leave this set to the default setting

    • Template: Choose a template you would like for your category

    • Category Color: Categories can be assigned custom colors, which appear in the FAQ tags for better visual organization.

    • Permissions: Set permissions at the category level

      • View: May view the live side only

      • Author: Can submit new items. Can modify or delete unpublished items

      • Publisher: Can publish new items. Can modify or delete unpublished items. Can modify or unpublish published items. Can publish or reject submitted items

      • Owner: Has all Publisher permissions. Can also create or modify categories. Can also assign category permissions

  5. Navigate to and select a Save option:

    • Save: Will save changes without posting to the live site

    • Save and Publish: Will save changes and publish to the live site


Add a Subcategory

Subcategories are optional, offering flexible organization without requiring changes to existing content. Each FAQ question includes a subcategory dropdown, allowing assignment to a single subcategory. The dropdown is disabled if no subcategories exist.

  1. Sign in to your site.

  2. Navigate to Modules and, on the Content tab, select FAQs:

  3. Select an existing Category:

  4. Click the Add Subcategory button:

  5. Enter a Name for the subcategory:

  6. Click the Save button:

  7. Assign the subcategory to the applicable FAQ(s) using the drop-down:

Modify a Category

  1. Sign in to your site.

  2. Navigate to Modules and, on the Content tab, select FAQs:

  3. Locate the category you want to modify:

  4. Click Choose an Action and then select Properties:

  5. Modify the fields as needed:

    Modify category settings for FAQs, including name, dates, and permission options.

    • Category Name: Edit the category name

    • Start Display: Change the display date to auto-publish the category. A blank date will immediately publish the category

    • End Display: Change the end display date to auto-unpublish the category. A blank date will leave the category published indefinitely

    • Number to Display: The maximum number of FAQs that display on a related page

    • Show Archives: Leave this set to the default setting

    • Template: Choose a different template for your category, if desired

    • Category Color: Categories can be assigned custom colors, which appear in the FAQ tags for better visual organization

    • Permissions: Set permissions at the category level

      • View: May view the live side only

      • Author: Can submit new items. Can modify or delete unpublished items

      • Publisher: Can publish new items. Can modify or delete unpublished items. Can modify or unpublish published items. Can publish or reject submitted items

      • Owner: Has all Publisher permissions. Can also create or modify categories. Can also assign category permissions

  6. Click the Save button:

Delete an FAQ Category

Important Note:

You cannot delete a category that has questions in it.

  1. Sign in to your site.

  2. Navigate to Modules and, on the Content tab, select FAQs:

  3. Locate the category you would like to delete:

  4. Click Choose an Action, and then select Unpublish:

  5. Navigate to the Unpublished Categories section:

  6. Click Choose an Action for the category, and then select Delete:

  7. Select OK on the dialog box that says, Are you sure you want to delete this category?:
