Differences Between Archive Public and Archive Hidden

This article is designed to teach you about the differences between Public and Hidden Archives. When archiving an item in a module, you can choose the Archive Public or Archive Hidden option:

  • Archive Public: Selecting the Archive Public option will unpublish and delete the item, and add the item to the Archives Visible section of that module. If Public Archives are enabled, end-users should be able to search and view items in the Archive section:The back-end of the Archive Center module with the Archives Visible section highlighted.

  • Archive Hidden: Selecting the Archive Hidden option will unpublish and delete the item and add the item to the Archives Hidden section of that module. These items will be accessible on the back end of the site, but not visible to the public:The back-end of the Archive Center module with the Archives Hidden section highlighted.

Back-End of Module Archives

For modules that include an Archives section, this section is accessible by selecting the appropriate button on the back-end module page (will differ depending on the module).

  • Show ArchivedThe back-end of the News Flash module with the Show Archived button highlighted.

  • Go To Archivesgot to archives button.

Front-End of Module Archives

When Public Archives are enabled for a module, a button will display on the associated front-end module pages for users to access. The button location will differ depending on the module.
