Set Answer Types to Avoid Spam

One way to avoid spam submissions is to make the requirements of your form more complex. This simple change will cause many spammers to fail and not get through to you.

This article will show you how to change field requirements.

Instructions

  1. Sign in to your site

  2. Navigate to Modules, then Content, and then Form Center:A navigation menu highlighting the Form Center option in the Municipal Websites Central interface.

  3. Select the category that contains your form:The Form Center module with the Economic Development category highlighted for selection.

  4. Click Actions next to the desired form

  5. Select Modify

  6. Locate your fields and select a field to change:A form opened for editing with the First Name field highlighted.

  7. Select the Advanced tab:The Form Center with a form open for editing and a field selected. The Advanced tab of the field is highlighted.

    Note:

    Depending on the field, the Advanced tab may not be available.

  8. Change the Answer Must Be of Type to a more specific answer:A Short Answer field on the Advanced tab with the Answer Must Be of Type drop-down menu expanded and highlighted.

    • Anything: Accepts all answers

    • Only Letters: Only accepts letters

    • Only Numbers: Only accepts numbers

    • Telephone Number: Only accepts phone numbers

    • Postal/ZIP Code: Only accepts ZIP code numbers

    • Email Address: Only accepts email addresses

    • Currency: Only accepts currency (money) formats

    • Advanced: More customization is available

  9. Click Save Changes:A Short Answer field on the Advanced tab with the Save Changes button highlighted.

  10. Select Save:The Save button of a form is highlighted in the Form Center module.
