Released Enhancements

Sections

We’ve introduced Sections, a new way to group pages and power-scoped search across your site.

Sections replace the previous Department Header-based search functionality and unify page grouping, search scoping, and analytics under a single, consistent model. You can now define Sections for any logical area of your site, such as programs, services, or initiatives, and use them to limit or filter search results with clear, user-friendly labels. Sections also align with existing analytics tracking, making it easier to measure performance. This search functionality is now available to all customers and no longer requires a design package.

With Sections, you can create more intuitive search experiences, reduce configuration complexity, and help residents find the right information faster.

Search Filters

To make finding content easier and more predictable, we’ve streamlined how "Sections" appear in your search results. Previously, these lists were sorted by result count, which could make specific categories hard to locate in longer lists.

What’s changed:

  • Alphabetical Sorting: Sections are now listed alphabetically rather than by result count, making it much faster to scan and find the specific category you need.

  • Improved Layout: We’ve added a maximum height (500px) with a vertical scrollbar for the sections list on desktop to prevent long lists from pushing other tools off-screen. We also added a bit of breathing room (padding) between your active filters and the "Sort By" options for better clarity.

URL Aliases

We’re introducing new URL Alias capabilities in Web Evolve to help you create cleaner, more user-friendly, and SEO-friendly URLs across your website content.

With this update:

  • Pages will automatically receive human-readable URLs instead of ID-based links

  • Headless CMS content can use structured URL patterns like /content/news/community-event

  • Existing URLs will continue to work through automatic redirects

This enhancement is designed to improve:

  • Search engine optimization (SEO)

  • Link readability and trust

  • Content sharing

What You Need to Know

  • Page aliases are automatically enabled

  • Headless CMS URL patterns will require configuration by your team

  • Existing links will continue to resolve properly after launch

  • An Aliases permission exists to give the appropriate users access to modify URL Aliases for pages. Site Admins automatically have access.

Accessibility

Mini Calendars

To address accessibility issues flagged by AudioEye (WCAG 1.3.1, 4.1.2), we have replaced the Home Calendar’s underlying component with Adobe’s @react-aria/calendar. This update brings the mini-calendar up to WCAG AA/AAA compliance, ensuring proper ARIA roles, improved keyboard navigation, and enhanced screen reader support. The new calendar is visually consistent with previous designs and is now easier for all users to navigate.

What’s changed and why it matters:

  • The calendar now provides clear, accessible labels and roles, making it easier for screen readers to distinguish days with events.

  • Keyboard navigation is more predictable and reliable, with no focus traps and full arrow key support.

  • Existing workflows remain familiar, but users will notice improved accessibility and a more inclusive experience.

Widget Descriptions

We’ve improved accessibility and control over content display in Stacked, Slideshow, and Events widgets. Now, when limiting description length, the system uses a character count (default: 150) instead of visual CSS tricks, ensuring that truncated text ends cleanly at word boundaries and is followed by ellipses to indicate more content is available. You’ll find a new character limit field in the widget options, and toggling this feature on or off is now more intuitive. This change makes it easier for users, especially those with visual impairments, to track focus and navigate content predictably.

  • Description limits are now based on character count, not visual size.

  • Ellipses are added at word boundaries to indicate truncated text.

  • A new character limit field is available in widget options (default: 150, HTML stripped).
