Use Traceroute on Windows

Traceroute is a software tool that displays the path and basic information about the network path between two addresses. You will need access to a Terminal Window or Command Prompt to run this software.

Important Notes:

  • Availability will depend on your Operating System.

  • Windows users will use the command “tracert”.

  • You can also use the "pathping" command, if available

Instructions

  1. Click the Windows Start Menu icon The Windows Start menu flag icon.

  2. Type "cmd" into the search bar inside the Start Menu The text entry field with the text c m d entered.

  3. Click& Command Prompt (CMD) when the search completes The app labeled Command Prompt.

  4. Type tracert alt text typed into the command prompt tool."

    Note:

  5. Hit Enter on your keyboard and wait for completion

  6. Copy the results and paste them into a text file

  7. Submit the text file for analysis
