Important Notes

  • If you want to track analytics or the use of the mobile buttons, we'd recommend utilizing a third-party platform that allows for the tracking of specific links. This can be a service such as bit.ly. This enables you to use a redirect link and track usage.

  • For seasonal mobile buttons, you can disable and enable them as needed.

Add Mobile App Buttons

  1. Sign in to your site

  2. Click the Profile icon, then Manage Organization:The User Profile dropdown menu with the Manage Organization option highlighted.

  3. Select Buttons in the left-hand navigation, under the Mobile App heading:Manage Organization screen with the Mobile App Buttons option highlighted.

  4. Select New Button:The Mobile App Buttons screen with the New Button highlighted.

  5. Fill out the New Mobile App Button fields:New Mobile App Button screen fields and options.

    • Label: This is a short-name field used in older versions of the app. It is no longer used in newer versions of the app.

    • Long Label: Add a descriptive label in this long name field for newer versions of the app.

    • Icon: Select an icon from the library preloaded for your use.

    • Action: Choose an action from the drop-down.

      • Call a phone number: Add a phone number for the button: The New Mobile App Button screen with the Action drop-down menu set to Call a Phone Number.

        • Open URL in external app or browser: Enter the URL you would like the button to open outside of the mobile app: The New Mobile App Button screen with the Action drop-down set to Open URL in External App or Browser.

          Note:

          • This link can be used to open any webpage, open up an email client, or open up a text message application. If you want to create a mobile button to open an email, you can utilize the "mailto:" link format. If you want to create a link to open up an SMS or text application, you can utilize the preface of "sms://+1" and then the 10-digit number.

            • Example: "mailto:mayor@cityofanywhere.gov?subject=SeeClickFix%20Contact" - This URL will open an email for the constituent with the subject line pre-populated as "SeeClickFix 311 CRM Contact".

            • Example: "sms://+18882282233" - This URL will open the SMS/text application on the user's mobile phone.

        • Show some text: Enter text to show for the button:The New Mobile App Button screen with the Action drop-down menu set to Show Some Text.

        • View URL within app: Add a URL you would like the button to open within the mobile app:The New Mobile App Button screen with the Action drop-down menu set to View URL Within App.

          Note:

View URL Within App is best when used to show a "content only" page such as a simple page with static information, without any additional web functionality. For more complex websites, customers should utilize the action Open URL in external app or browser.

    • Example:

      • If your organization uses CivicPlus Resident Agent with SeeClickFix 311 CRM, you can create a mobile app button that opens the webpage where Resident Agent is available. For this button type, we recommend selecting View URL Within App.

      • To open the Resident Agent chat widget automatically, add ?agentWidgetOpen=1 to the end of the webpage URL.

        • Example: https://yourcivicwebsite.gov/report?agentWidgetOpen=1

        Note:

Resident Agent currently supports SeeClickFix 311 CRM guest submissions only. Confirm that guest submissions are enabled for the categories that residents should be able to submit through Resident Agent.

  6. Click the Create Mobile App Button:The New Mobile App Button screen with the Create Mobile App Button highlighted.

  7. To see the new button, open the app and refresh your location/place page to reload the button after the update.
