ArcGIS Field Maps Integration

Prev Next

Connect SeeClickFix 311 CRM to an ArcGIS feature layer so that resident requests appear as features your field crews can work in ArcGIS Field Maps, and so updates from the field flow back to residents.

When a resident submits a request in SeeClickFix 311 CRM, the integration creates a point feature in your ArcGIS feature layer. Crews see and edit that feature in ArcGIS Field Maps. SeeClickFix 311 CRM then checks the feature on a schedule, posts comments from the field back to the request, and closes the request when the feature reaches a closed status.

Request flow: Resident reports in SeeClickFix 311 CRM, the feature is added to ArcGIS layer, Crew works it in Field Maps, the status and comments return to SeeClickFix 311 CRM

If you only need a one-way copy of your request data in ArcGIS for reporting and dashboards, see the ArcGIS Online Integration (ArcGIS Connector) article.

Important Notes:

  • Your ArcGIS licensing must allow an account to edit the feature layer through the ArcGIS REST API.

  • The integration signs in as a dedicated ArcGIS user. That account must be able to sign in without multi-factor authentication or an interactive login screen.

  • CivicPlus turns the integration on and configures the field mappings. Your administrators manage the connection settings (layer URL and credentials) in SeeClickFix 311 CRM.

Requirements

  • ArcGIS platform: ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal / ArcGIS Server) with a publicly reachable REST endpoint.

  • Hosted feature layer: a point feature layer with editing enabled (add and update features).

  • Attachments: enabled on the layer if you want resident photos sent to ArcGIS.

  • Task type field: a field on the layer with a coded-value domain listing your task types.

  • Integration user: an ArcGIS named user with permission to query and edit the layer.

  • ArcGIS Field Maps: a map in Field Maps that includes the layer, for crews to work requests.

Syncing Categories

The integration reads the coded-value domain on your task type field and uses it as the list of request categories. Each domain value becomes one category: the task name is the category title residents see, and the task code is the value sent back to ArcGIS.

  • Schedule: categories sync automatically once a day.

  • On demand: go to the Agencies page and select Sync with Integration (ArcGIS Field Maps).

  • New tasks added in ArcGIS are added as new categories in SeeClickFix 311 CRM.

  • Renamed values in ArcGIS update the category title in SeeClickFix 311 CRM.

  • Removed values in ArcGIS disable the matching category in SeeClickFix 311 CRM. Categories are never deleted, and a disabled category is turned back on if its value returns to the domain.

Submitting Requests

When a resident or staff member creates a request in an integrated category, SeeClickFix 311 CRM adds it to your layer as a new point feature. The feature appears in Field Maps as soon as the map refreshes.

  • Requests are sent individually, within moments of creation.

  • The request location is sent as the feature geometry, projected to your layer's spatial reference (SRID).

  • The request's photo, if there is one, is added to the feature as an attachment.

Submitting Attachments

Request and comment images added in SeeClickFix 311 CRM are sent to ArcGIS so crews can see them on the feature in Field Maps.

Service Endpoints and Network Access

Enter connection settings directly in SeeClickFix 311 CRM so credentials are never shared by email. Go to Integrations and select Settings, then select the integration and fill in Connection Settings:

Setting

What to enter

Endpoint

The REST URL of the feature layer, ending in the layer index. Example: https://services.arcgis.com/<org>/arcgis/rest/services/WorkRequests/FeatureServer/0

Username / Password

The ArcGIS integration user.

SRID

The layer's spatial reference WKID (Well‑Known ID), for example 3857 (Web Mercator) or your State Plane WKID.

Integration User

Create a named ArcGIS user for the integration rather than using a person's account. The user needs to query, add, and update features on the layer and add attachments. Multi-factor authentication and SAML or other single sign-on must be off for this account, because the integration signs in without a person present.

Firewalls

For ArcGIS Enterprise behind a firewall, your IT staff need to allow inbound HTTPS connections from SeeClickFix 311 CRM to the ArcGIS Server or Portal. Contact CivicPlus Support for the current list of IP addresses to allow.

Feature Layer Requirements

Task Type Field

The layer needs one field whose coded-value domain lists every task type you want residents to choose from. Add, rename, or remove task types by editing this domain in ArcGIS. The next category sync applies the change in SeeClickFix 311 CRM.

Field Mapping

CivicPlus maps request details to your layer's fields during setup. You can view the mapping under “Create Remote Request” in Integration Features. The fields are mapped as follows:

SeeClickFix 311 CRM field

ArcGIS field

Category

esritask_type

Description

esritask_description

Address

location

Request ID

Request Status

esritask_status

Custom Fields

Other fields can be filled when a request is submitted, such as agency name, district, or answers to category questions. Send requests to CivicPlus Support for review.

Status Mapping

SeeClickFix 311 CRM status

ArcGIS status

When

Open

None

Request created, not yet in ArcGIS

Acknowledged

Any open status

Feature created in ArcGIS

Closed

Closed status (for example COMPLETED or CLOSED)

Feature reaches a closed status

The statuses that count as closed are set during setup to match your layer's status domain.

Request Closed

When the feature reaches a closed status, SeeClickFix 311 CRM closes the request with a public closing comment and stops checking it. The closing message can be customized.

Troubleshooting

Symptom

What to check

Connectivity check fails, or nothing reaches ArcGIS

The integration user's password has not expired or changed, MFA and single sign-on are off for the account, and the Endpoint URL ends in the layer index (for example /FeatureServer/0).

Requests stay Open and never become Acknowledged

The user can add features to the layer and the layer allows editing. Requests that fail repeatedly show an integration status of Failed. Contact CivicPlus Support to resend them.

Features appear in the wrong place

The SRID matches the layer's spatial reference.

Photos missing in Field Maps

Attachments are enabled on the layer.

Categories don't match the layer

The domain on the task type field has been saved; then run Sync with Integration from the Agencies page.

Closed features don't close the request

The status value used matches one of the closed statuses configured for your integration. Checks may take up to 24 hours on older requests.
