Difference Between Internal and Private Request Categories

Prev Next

Service requests can be created and/or edited to have different exposure settings that will affect who can see the information created. If a service request is not marked as "Private", all information will be present on the public-facing site.

Internal Use Only

The service request category is only visible to government employees (hence the name "Internal Use"), but the report is publicly visible when posted. Only members of an organization's account will be able to report requests into this category. This could be used for something such as "Tree Removal," where only a city employee should confirm and request a tree to be removed.

Private

The service request category is visible to all, but the report does not have a public-facing report page after submission. This feature is turned on by checking the box for "Privatize issues by default" on the request category settings page.

We recommend sensitive type issue categories be marked as private. This could include such as drug activity, police tips, and homeless encampments.

Internal Use Only + Private

Service request categories are only visible to government employees, and there is no public-facing issue request page after submission. This is often used for items such as city hall facility requests.
