Connecting a Facebook Page to the Archive

This article will show you how to connect a Facebook Page to the Archive. For account owners and System Administrators.

Important Notes

  • Facebook page connections require Admin/Facebook access with full control status on your Facebook Page.

  • You will log in and continue as your personal Facebook Profile to authorize Page connections in the archive.

  • You must be switched to your personal profile on your web browser before connecting or reconnecting your Facebook accounts.

  • Social Media Archiving does not capture your personal profile information. See Step 5 under the Connect Facebook section below for more details.

Initial Steps for Account Owners

  1. Locate and open your initial email with the subject line of ArchiveSocial: action required - connect your social media accounts:Connect Facebook email.

  2. Click the custom link within that email:Custom email link.

  3. On the next window, select Connect Facebook

    Note:

    Bookmark this window so you can access your personalized account connection page in the future.

Initial Steps for System Admins

  1. Sign in to your archive

  2. Click the Configure tab:Configure tab.

  3. Navigate to the Social Media Accounts tab:Social Media Accounts tab in the left navigation menu.

  4. Next to your name, click Connect Accounts:Connect Accounts button.

    Note:

    If the account owner's email is different from your system administrator email, you'll need to click a drop-down to locate the connect button for step 4.

Connect Facebook Instructions

  1. Click Connect Facebook:Connect to Facebook option.

    Note:

    Web Browsers automatically use the sign-in for logged-in accounts. This happens even if you don't have a Facebook window/tab currently open. Please ensure you either sign out or are signed in to the correct Facebook Profile.

  2. Use the pop-up prompt to sign in to your Facebook Profile:Login to Facebook pop-up.

    Note:

    If you were signed into a Facebook profile already, this step will be skipped.

  3. Click Continue as [First Name]:Requesting access Continue as button example.

    Note:

    Please don’t edit access permissions. Changing the settings under Edit access can result in an error for your connections. If the name area is blank, please contact Support.

  4. Select the Facebook Page(s) you would like to connect:Example account to be connected.

  5. Click Finish:Finish button.

  6. When you've finished, you will see the following confirmation message:Successfully connected message.

Post Connection Notices

Depending on your Facebook notification settings, you may receive a notification from Facebook advising that you logged into Social Media Archiving.

Clicking on the notification will take you to the Edit Permissions screen for Social Media Archiving. Please don’t edit the permissions: Changing the settings can result in an error in your connection.

This email will again present a button to Edit Settings.
