Search Multiple Codes Simultaneously

MuniPRO is a municipal law research tool designed for attorneys, planners, developers, municipal clerks, and other professionals. A MuniPRO subscription allows power users to search all codes and individual ordinances in the code library, create and save draft legislation, and attach saved notes to sections within any code.

This article will show you how to use the MuniPRO feature to search multiple codes simultaneously and see how local governments across the country address municipal issues. See the Advanced Search Options article for information on how to optimize your searches.

Important Notes

Start a New MuniPRO Search from Your Dashboard

  1. Log in to your Dashboard The Online Code Hosting dashboard.

  2. Navigate to the Munipro Search section and select Start a New Search The MuniPRO Search box and Start a New Search button.

  3. Enter the desired word(s) or phrase into the Enter search terms box The Enter search terms box.

  4. Click Select States The Select States button to the left of the Enter search terms box.

  5. Click Clear All to deselect all states, territories, tribes, and tribal nations, if desired The Clear All button above the states list.

    Note:

    By default, all states, territories, tribes, and tribal nations are selected. If you leave all options checked, the system will search all codes, ordinances, and documents within the code library for your search terms.

  6. Check or uncheck boxes next to specific states, territories, tribes, and tribal nations to expand or narrow your search, or click Select All to choose all options The Select All button and individual state check boxes.

  7. Click the filter icon next to your selections to choose individual municipalities, if desired The Filter icon next to an example state.

  8. Click Clear All to deselect all municipalities, if desired The Clear All button above the states list.

    Note:

    By default, all municipalities are selected. If you leave all options checked, the system will search all of these municipalities' codes, ordinances, and documents for your search terms.

  9. Check or uncheck boxes next to specific municipalities to expand or narrow your search, or click Select All to choose all options The Select All button and individual state check boxes.

  10. Click the X in the top-right corner of the pop-out municipalities box to return to the state selection screen The X icon in the upper right corner of the municipalities box.

  11. Click Search The blue, rectangular Search button.

  12. Your search results will appear Example search results.


Start a New MuniPRO Search from the Code Library

  1. Navigate to a Code An example code of ordinances.

  2. Enter the desired search term(s) in the Search or jump to box and hit Enter on your keyboard The Search or jump to box.

  3. Click Options next to your search term(s) The Options button to the right of the search box.

  4. Click the MuniPro Search radio button The MuniPRO Search radio button.

  5. Click one of the Select States buttons The Select States buttons to the left of the search box and below the search radio buttons.

  6. Click Clear All to deselect all states, territories, tribes, and tribal nations, if desired The Clear All button above the states list.

    Note:

    If you leave all boxes checked, the system will search all codes, ordinances, and documents within the code library for your search terms.

  7. Check or uncheck boxes next to specific states, territories, tribes, and tribal nations to expand or narrow your search, or click Select All to choose all options The Select All button and individual state check boxes.

  8. Click the filter icon next to your selections to choose individual municipalities, if desired The Filter icon next to an example state.

  9. Click Clear All to deselect all municipalities, if desired The Clear All button above the states list.

    Note:

    If you leave all boxes checked, the system will search all codes, ordinances, and documents within these municipalities.

  10. Check or uncheck boxes next to specific municipalities to expand or narrow your search, or click Select All to choose all options The Select All button and individual state check boxes.

  11. Click the X in the top-right corner of the pop-out municipalities box to return to the state selection screen The X icon in the upper right corner of the municipalities box.

  12. Click Search The blue, rectangular Search button.

  13. Your search results will appear Example search results.


Filter and Sort MuniPRO Search Results

  1. Execute a MuniPRO search from your Dashboard or Code Library Example search results.

  2. Click Codes, Ordinances, or Documents above the search results to narrow down the results by publication type, if desired The Codes, Ordinances, and Documents filters.

    Note:

    Codes are the default publication type for search results.

  3. Click Search Municipal Website to view the results of this search pulled from your home municipality's website The Search Municipal Website button.

  4. Check or uncheck the boxes next to the listed Classifications and Population Ranges to narrow down the results by municipality type or size The Classification and Population Range filters.

    Note:

    If you have filtered your results to show Documents only, an additional set of options will appear in this area, allowing you to narrow the results down by content type.

  5. Click Relevance to sort the results of the search by Relevance or by Document Order Sort search by relevance or document order.

    Note:

    Results are sorted according to Relevance by default.

  6. Select the Results per page drop-down list below the search results to select how many results appear on the page at one time The Results per page drop-down list.

    Note:

    By default, ten search results are shown on the page at a time.
