Add & Manage Calendar Categories

This article will show you how to add and configure properties for a Calendar category. For more information on Default Messages, view our article Calendar Default Messages.

Important Note:

A category must be published and have at least one published event in it before it will show on the live side of the website.

Add a Calendar Category

Instructions

  1. Sign in to your site

  2. Navigate to Modules and on the Content tab, select CalendarModules menu with Calendar selected.

  3. Select Add CalendarAdd Calendar button.

  4. Fill in the information fields new calendar fields.

    • Calendar Title: Display the name of the calendar

    • Description: Provides a description of the calendar if you choose to allow subscribers to this calendar

    • iCalendar Feed: Allows you to add events from a feed to the Calendar module using a valid ICS URL

    • Template: Controls the design that will appear for items associated with this category

    • Department Header Search: Searches from within the selected Department Header will only display results from within this category (and others with the same assigned Department Header)

    • Email List: Will allow Admin users to send out emails from this calendar

    • Allow Subscribers: Will allow users to subscribe to the calendar in the Notify Me module

      Note:

      You must have the Notify Me module for this function.

    • Allow SMS: Will allow users to subscribe to SMS notifications

    • Update Integration Hub: Sends all Calendar Published item changes to CivicPlus Integration Hub to allow integrations.

    • Add / Modify Item RSS Behavior: Choose the default RSS behavior for the category when calendar items are added or modified.

      Note:

      If you do not see these fields, contact Support to enable them.

    • Permissions: Setting permissions at the category level is suggested

      • View: Allows the viewing of the live slide only

      • Author: Submit new items, modify unpublished items

      • Publisher: new items, modify unpublished items, modify/unpublish published items, and publish/reject submitted items

      • Owner: Publish new items, modify/delete unpublished items, modify/unpublish published items, publish/reject submitted items, create/modify categories, and assign category permissions

    • Additional Details:

      • Color: If needed, change the default color for the calendar category

      • Show Archives: If checked, archives will be visible to the public

  5. Select a Save option at the top of the page save or save and publish buttons.

    • Save Changes: Will save the work as an unpublished draft

    • Save & Submit: Will save the work as an unpublished draft and notify a publisher that it is ready for review (option is for Authors only)

    • Save & Publish: Will save the work and publish it for viewing

Modify a Category

Instructions

  1. Sign in to your site

  2. Go to Modules and on the Content tab, select CalendarModules menu with Calendar selected.

  3. Select the Calendar you would like to modify Select calendar category.

  4. Select Actions next to the category nameCalendar Category Actions.

  5. Select Modify Modify option in drop-down.

  6. Make modifications

      • Calendar Title: Displays the name of the Calendar

      • Description: Provides a description of the Calendar

      • iCalendar Feed: Displays all events from an iCalendar .ics URL to the Calendar category in widgets and Calendar module views

      • Template: Controls the design that will appear for items associated with this category. If one is not selected, the default site design will be applied.

      • Department Header Search: May vary by site, searches from within the selected Department Header will only display results from within this category (and others with the same assigned Department Header)

      • Email List: Allows Admin users to send out notification emails from this calendar

      • Allow Subscribers: Allows users to subscribe to Calendar in the Notify Me module

      • Allow SMS: Will allow users to subscribe to SMS notifications

      • Update Integration Hub: Sends all Calendar Published item changes to CivicPlus Integration Hub to allow integrations.

        • Color: Associate a color with the category

        • Show Archives: Select to display archives to the public

    • Default Messages Tab Default messages tab.

      • HTML Subscriber Welcome Message/ HTML List Header/ HTML List Footer: Edit the HTML version of subscriber messages

      • Copy HTML to Text: Copy the HTML to the text view

      • Subscriber Welcome Message/ List Header/ List Footer: Edit the plain text versions of subscriber messages

  7. Select Save Changes in the top-right cornerSave Changes button.

Delete a Calendar Category

Important Note:

All items within the calendar must be unpublished and deleted before the calendar can be deleted.

Instructions

  1. Sign in to your site

  2. Navigate to Modules and on the Content tab, select CalendarModules menu with Calendar selected.

  3. Select the calendar category you would like to delete The right-hand list of Calendar categories.

  4. Click Actions for the category Calendar Category actions button.

    Note:

    You may need to enable the Previous option in the View Options area to be able to see and remove older Events within the category. Expand View Options, select Previous, and click Apply.Display Previous events checkbox and the apply button.

  5. Select Actions and then Unpublish The category actions menu's unpublish option.

  6. Select Actions and then Delete The category actions menu's delete option.

  7. Click Ok on the pop-up message that says Are you sure you want to delete this calendar?The okay button on the delete confirmation pop-up message.
