Turn On the Emergency Alert Bar

Who can use this feature?

System Administrators | Owners

Important Notes:

  • You must enable the Alert Bar on the Category Level first before you can turn on the Alert Bar for an item.

  • If there are multiple published alerts with the Alert Bar enabled, the alert with the most recent Start Date will appear first and control the Alert Bar Text and Link.

    • If there are multiple published alerts with the same Start Date, the most recently modified will appear first.

  • The Action can show a maximum of 2 alerts at once.

Instructions

  1. Sign in to your site.

  2. Navigate to Modules, click Content, and select Alert Center:The navigation menu highlights the Alert Center option in the Municipal Websites Central interface.

  3. Select the category you would like to use: The Alert Center displays various alert categories with Emergency Alert highlighted.

  4. Click Actions next to the desired item: Alert Center displays a gas leak report and action options for users.

  5. Select Modify: Alert Center is displaying a gas leak report and modification options for emergency alerts.

  6. Navigate to the Alert Bar and choose where you would like the Alert Bar to display: Options for alert bar settings, including 'All Pages' selection highlighted.

    • None: Alert bar displays on no pages

    • All Pages: Alert bar displays on all site pages

    • Home Page Only: Alert bar only displays on the home page

    • Department page and subpages: Alert will display on a specified page and all subpages of that page Options for setting the alert bar on a webpage, including department pages.

  7. Under Alert Bar Text, add the name of the alert that appears on the alert bar: An input field for custom alert bar text with instructions for overriding default text.

    Notes:

    • Leaving “Emergency Alert” does not override the alert bar text. Only custom text will override the alert bar text.

    • Text limit of 20 characters.

  8. Change the Alert Bar Link, if desired: Instructions and an input field for setting the Alert Bar link.

    Note:

    Leaving “/AlertCenter.aspx” does not override the alert bar link; only a custom relative or absolute link will change where the main Alert Bar area directs.

  9. Scroll to Alert Starts and select options:Form fields for setting alert start and end dates and times.

    • Alert Starts and Ends: Choose a date and time you would like to start and end the alert

  10. Scroll to the top and choose Save Changes or Save and Publish:Buttons for saving, publishing, and canceling actions in a user interface layout. The save and publish buttons are highlighted.

    • Save Changes: Saves the alert as a draft. The alert is not visible on the website

    • Save and Publish: Saves the alert and immediately displays it on the website
