Integrate Recreation Management and Web Central Calendars

This article will show you how to integrate your Recreation Management calendar with a Municipal Websites Central calendar. This process consists of 3 main steps.

Important Note:

CivicPlus' Integration Hub can also be used to sync your Rec (formerly CivicRec) calendar with Web Central (formerly CivicEngage). CivicPlus organizations have an Integration Hub instance. If you are unsure if you have access to Integration Hub, please contact your Customer Success Manager or Support.

Step 1: Generate the Recreation Management Calendar Feed Link

  1. Log in to your Recreation Management solution

  2. Select the Facilities tab from the menu: Rec, Admin User Menu, Facilities Tab.

  3. In the Facilities menu, select the Calendar option: Rec, Admin User Menu, Facilities Tab, Calendar Option.

  4. Filter by Locations and/or Programs: Locations filter button and programs filter button.

  5. Check the boxes for the facilities, categories, or activities you want to show in Web CentralLocations and programs filter options checkboxes.

  6. Click the Refresh button: Refresh Button.

  7. Click the Export button to open the export options dropdown menu: Rec, Facilities, Calendar, Export Button.

  8. Select the Create Feed option: Rec, Facilities, Calendar, Export Button Menu, Create Feed Option.

    Note:

    Do not choose Export Current View.

  9. Choose the Public feed option in the pop-up text box: Public Feed Option.

  10. Copy the Feed URL: Feed URL field.

Step 2: Create the Calendar Module Category in Web Central

  1. Log in to your Web Central website; website preferences may change what this looks like, but adding "URL will take you to a sign-in screen

  2. Select the Modules dropdown menu: Web Central, Admin User Menu, Modules.

  3. On the Modules menu, select the Content tab: Web Central, Admin User Menu, Modules Menu, Content Tab.

  4. In the Content tab, select the Calendar module option: Web Central, Admin User Menu, Modules Menu, Content Tab, Calendar.

  5. Select the Add Calendar button: Add Calendar button.

  6. Enter a Calendar Title and Description: Calendar title and description fields.

  7. Paste the Rec Feed URL in the iCalendar Feed field: Rec Feed URL in the iCalendar Feed field.

  8. Click the Save and Publish button: Save and publish button.

    Note:

    The events from the iCalendar Feed will not show in the back end of Web Central; however, they will display on the front end. You can also add new events to the same Web Central calendar that has the iCalendar feed. The calendar will display both the events it pulls from Rec as well as the new events created in Web Central.

Step 3: Display the Calendar Feed on a Web Central Page

  1. Log in to your Web Central website; website preferences may change what this looks like, but adding "URL will take you to a sign-in screen

  2. Navigate to the page you want to add your calendar feed to

  3. Add a Calendar Widget to your desired page: Calendar widget drag and dropped onto a page.

    Note:

    Your content goes here

    Ensure that you select the category you just created in the Widget options:Calendar widget category.

  4. View the calendar feed: Calendar widget displaying calendar feed on a page.

    Note:

    The event title will pull the following information from Rec:

    • The date and time of the event

    • The names of the activity and session

    • The names of the facility and the location for the rental
