Delete or Stop a Recurring Event

Prev Next

Recurring events have two parts: the individual events on your calendar, and the event template that generates them. Deleting an event only removes that one occurrence. It does not change the template. The template will keep generating new events on its normal schedule. To stop new events, update the template itself, not the individual events. Use the following sections to find the steps you need.

Remove Events That Already Exist

If you want to remove one or more events already on your calendar, deleting them will do that. Deleting an event does not stop future events from being generated. The template will keep generating new events on its normal schedule.

If the event you want to delete has an associated agenda, you will be asked how to handle that agenda before the event is deleted. See the linked articles for details:

Note:

Deleted events can be restored within 30 days using the Trash Can feature.

Stop New Events from Being Created

If events keep appearing on a schedule you no longer want, such as a meeting that repeats every month, the individual events are not the cause. Recurring events are controlled by the event template. The template's “Recurrence” and “End After” settings need to be updated to stop new events from generating.

See the Create and Manage Event Templates article for steps on editing a template's schedule.

Note:

Recurring events only generate up to one year ahead at a time. If events keep reappearing every year, an event template is generating them. Update the template to stop the pattern.
